Syrian-American NGOs Lead the Way in Syrian Humanitarian Aid Efforts

My latest article “Finding the Light in the Darkness: Syrian-American NGOs Lead the Way in Syrian Humanitarian Aid Efforts,” explores my research on humanitarian efforts in Syria by Muslim and Syrian Americans (MSAs) from 2012 to 2017.

It explores how the responses of large, international non-profit NGOs, like the United Nations, allowed the Syrian government to weaponize humanitarian aid to create and exacerbate the suffering of Syrian civilians. The article draws upon interviews with Syrian American humanitarians to contextualize and detail the growth of MSA led NGOs.
